| Abstract | When computer services were more limited in scope and users, providing those services could be handled manually by a minimum of staff. Over the years computer access has gone from a few researchers using a mainframe to nearly the entire University community using e-mail, computer labs, modem pools, and the World Wide Web. In addition, new initiatives have created on-line access to course scheduling, benefits revisions, and other critical operations. With this increase in the need for access to centrally provided computer services, the task could have become daunting. Without hiring additional staff, our Information Technology Services Accounts Office now provides access to 120,000 users. In addition, we can provide specifically requested access to certain services based on class registration or any aspect of a user's affiliation with the University.At Penn State, we've created an Oracle database system - Central Account Coordination Tracking of User Services or CACTUS - to provide and remove services based on official University student and employee data. Without hiring additional staff, our Information Technology Services Accounts Office now provides access to 120,000 users. In addition, we can provide specifically requested access to certain services based on class registration or any aspect of a user's affiliation with the University.Best of all, the structure of CACTUS allows us to look toward the future. We expect to further automate special requests so that manual entry will be a thing of the past. Also, we are now in a position to be able to expand our services to even more users. Our future plans are to extend some degree of services to potential applicants of the University, alumni, and anyone else who may wish to connect with Penn State electronically. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
