Abstract	It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the ACM-SIGPLAN International Symposium on Principles and Practice of Declarative Programming -- PPDP 2006. This year's symposium continues its tradition of being the premier forum bringing together researchers and practitioners from the many declarative programming paradigms. PPDP provides an opportunity to share perspectives with others interested in the various aspects of language design, analysis, and compilation.The call for papers attracted 60 submissions from Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. After a thorough peer-reviewing process in which each paper was reviewed by at least three reviewers, the program committee accepted 22 papers on a variety of topics related to declarative programming and other declarative aspects of programming languages.Putting together PPDP 2006 was a team effort. First of all, I would like to thank the authors and invited speakers for providing the content of the program. I would like to express my gratitude to the program committee and external reviewers, who worked very hard in reviewing papers and providing suggestions for their improvements.
