Abstract	Future classrooms and distance learning will likely be equipped with sophisticated tools to enable the virtual presence of students who are participating in lectures from remote locations. While partial solutions exist today, the complexities involved demand superior and scalable solutions. This paper describes a Virtual Training Environment (VTE) that targets Advanced Distance Learning (ADL). The goal is to develop a framework for virtual laboratories using Web-Based Simulation (WBS) in which the students join a class, collaborate with other students, and perform their training agenda. Simulation is a key component of the system, allowing the students to generate simulated objects and interact with them as part of their training task. In this system, offering a shared view of images and the display presents a challenge. Although digital video streaming could present a shared view, it cannot provide interactions between the students and the simulation environment as if they were in the lab. In this paper we present a shared view system and a prototype for the VTE that allows students at distance to share their view and interact with the simulator platform. The prototype provides a framework and proof of concept upon which numerous features can be added.
