| Abstract | Welcome to the first workshop on "Breaking Frontiers of Computational Biology (COMPBIO'09)". In our post-genomic era the vast mass of biological data is growing more than ever before. The creation of automatic tools and techniques to organize, analyze and, most of all, unravel the underlying information is one of the most searched and less well solved problems in biological and computational sciences. The main goal of this workshop is to provide to researchers from computational and biological disciplines a meeting point to present and discuss their ideas and solutions to problems concerning computational issues in biology. To this aim the length of workshop papers is shorter than regular conference papers, yet still allowing new ideas to be proposed and evaluated. We are pleased with the variety of topics covered in received papers, ranging from DNA analysis to protein structure prediction. |
