Abstract	MOOCs are a novel educational model, one of the spearheads of current research in the educational domain. Supported by unprecedented publicity albeit based on an over-than-a decade-year-oldconcepts, MOOCs are currently facing the real challenges on their way to maturity: how does learning (should) happen in a MOOC? how does the process of educating thousands of students bundles with the use of educational material designed for classic studying models? In this paper we try to address current trends in the use of educational content by already deployed MOOCs using a general, ISO-based quality model designed for distance learning quality evaluation. A qualitative study of 11 MOOC courses reveals content usage patterns that imply a coherent, evolving strategy, yet a strategy still based on classic theories of distance education. The design of a Quality Reference Framework for the design and assessment of MOOCs is also briefly presented.
