| Abstract | It is a great pleasure, on behalf of the Program Committee and Organizing Committee, to welcome the participants of the XI Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web - WebMedia 2005.WebMedia 2005 is held in Poços de Caldas - Minas Gerais, and is been organized by PUCMinas, in Poços de Caldas. Being annually promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and by the Special Commission of Multimedia and Hypermedia Systems, WebMedia consolidates itself as the main event of the area and as an event that integrates the scientific and professional's communities involved with development and research areas of multimedia, hypermedia and web.By the means of a variety of activities that occur during the symposium, such as invited speakers, technical presentations of rigorously evaluated papers, short-courses, applications and demo exhibitions, panels and presentations of undergraduate and graduate researches, the goals of WebMedia have been reached, so offering a forum of discussions among the main researchers, at national scale, and promoting scientific, commercial and cultural interchanges about the recent technologies.In this eleventh edition, WebMedia counts on the presence of Prof. Henry Lieberman from Media Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the United States of America, giving the opening talk. In this year, WebMedia received 100 full-paper submissions: 65 Portuguese-papers of which 19 were accepted to be published in these Proceedings, and 35 English-papers of which 12 were accepted to be published in the ACM/Digital Library. In addition, 36 short-papers were received of which 25 Portuguese-papers and 11 Englishpapers. The Program Committee, after applying a careful process of evaluation, selected 31 full-papers and 21 short-papers. The rate of acceptance of full-papers was approximately 30%. It is worth to point out the national compass of WebMedia 2005, represented by the various Brazilian states of the papers authors: Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goi´s, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Paran´, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.WebMedia 2005 offers 8 short-courses, which had been selected due to presenting attractive contents for both the undergraduate and graduate attendees, and simultaneously supplying a solid theoretical support for each student. As satellite events, we have the Workshop of Thesis and Dissertations, the Poster Session, the Workshop of Applications and Demos, the Workshop of Scientific Undergraduate Researches and the Workshop of Digital TV. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
