NDLI: Defining more efficient transfer syntax for application layer PDUs in field bus applications

Abstract	This paper proposes a set of coding rules suitable for usage in the Field Bus Application Layer Services. The major considerations presented in this document were adopted as a working basis in the ESPRIT project 5206, FICIM (Field bus Integration into Computer Integrated Manufacturing). As an input from FICIM to the international standardization work, in particular to the ISA SP 50 / IEC 65C WG6 committees, this proposal was the object of a survey, and its adoption in the International Standard for Field Bus Networks is under discussion at the time of this writing.
