| Claim | A row unit (18) of a corn header (10) for an agricultural harvester (12) comprising: a frame (24); a first row unit arm (26) mounted to the frame (24), the first row unit arm (26) including a first deck plate (28); and a second row unit arm (30) mounted to the frame (24), wherein the second row unit arm (30) includes a second deck plate (32) spaced from the first deck plate (28) defining a gap (34) therebetween, characterized by : each of the first and second deck plates (28, 32) including a plurality of structures (38) configured to inhibit a flow of grain. The row unit of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of structures (38) is configured as a corrugation, a rib, a recess or a protrusion. The row unit of claim 2, wherein each recess of the plurality of structures (38) has a depth at least slightly greater than a diameter of a corn kerne The row unit of claims 2 or 3, wherein each recess of the plurality of structures (38) has a depth of at least 3 mm. The row unit of claims 1-4, wherein each of the first and second deck plates (28, 32) is an elongated deck plate having a substantially planar top surface (32b), and wherein each structure (38) is a recess (40') having a sloped bottom surface (40a) extending from the top surface (32b). The row unit of claims 2-5, wherein the recess (40') is inset into the deck plate (28, 32) and includes a substantially planar front wall (40b) and a tapered bottom surface (40a). The row unit of claims 1-6, wherein each of the plurality of structures (38) comprises a horse shoe shaped structure (40), a V-shaped structure (138), an L-shaped structure (338), or a crescent shaped structure (238). The row unit of claims 1-6, wherein each of the plurality of structures (38) is configured as an elongated corrugation, an elongated rib, an elongated recess (40') or an elongated protrusion (40"). The row unit of claims 1-8, wherein each of the first and second deck plates (28, 32) is an elongated deck plate having a forward end and a rear end, and wherein the plurality of structures (38) are aligned in a row extending from the forward end to the rear end. The row unit of claims 1-9, wherein each of the first and second deck plates (28, 32) is an elongated deck plate having a substantially planar top surface (32b) extending continuously along a medial side (28a, 32a) of the deck plate (28, 32) defining a substantially planar impact zone (33), and wherein the plurality of structures (38) are positioned along a region of the deck plate (28, 32) adjacent the substantially planar impact zone (33). The row unit of claims 1-9, wherein each of the first and second deck plates (28, 32) is an elongated deck plate, and wherein the plurality of structures (38) are positioned spaced from a medial side (28a, 32a) of the deck plate (28, 32). The row unit of claims 10 or 11, wherein the plurality of structures (38) are positioned spaced from the medial side (28a, 32a) of the deck plate (28, 32) about a distance equal to one half a diameter of an ear of corn. |
