| Claim | A reader (100) for determining the presence and/or amount of one or more analytes in a sample carried by a test stick (700), said reader (100) comprising a carriage (300) for at least a portion of the test stick (700); wherein the reader (100) is adapted to receive at least a portion of the test stick (700) into a cavity (407) of the reader (100); the reader (100) comprising magnetic means for latching the carriage (300) onto the reader (100) within said cavity (407) at a predetermined reading position and means for latching the carriage (300) onto the reader within said cavity at a predetermined pre-reading and/or post-reading position that is spaced apart from the reading position. A test kit for determining the presence and/or amount of one or more analytes in a sample, comprising a test stick (700) and a reader according to claim 1. A test kit according to claim 2, wherein performing an assay for the one or more analytes causes a change to occur at a test zone of the test stick (700), said change only being detectable by the reader (100) when the test stick (700) is located at the predetermined reading position. A reader (100) according to claim 1 or a test kit according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the reader (100) comprises optical reading means. A test kit according to any of claims 2 to 4, wherein the test stick (700) comprises a porous carrier and/or microfluidic flow path. A reader (100) according to claim 1 or claim 4 or a test kit according to any of claims 2 to 5, wherein one or more magnetic means are provided in or adjacent the cavity (407), which co-operate with one or more magnetic means on the carriage (300) for the test stick (700). A reader (100) according to any one of claims 1, 4 and 6 or a test kit according to any of claims 2 to 6, wherein the carriage (300) is adapted to be received in the cavity (407) of the reader (100). A reader (100) or a test kit according to claim 7, wherein the carriage (300) is removable from the cavity (407) of the reader (100). A reader (100) according to any one of claims 1, 4, 6 and 7 or a test kit according to any of claims 2 to 7, wherein the carriage (300) forms at least one wall of the cavity (407). A reader (100) according to any one of claims 1, 4 and 6 to 9 or a test kit according to any of claims 2 to 9, wherein the reader (100) contains a protrusion (416) in the cavity (407), which mates with a recess in the test stick (700) and/or carriage (300) when the test stick (700) is located at the predetermined reading position. A reader (100) or a test kit according claim 10, wherein the predetermined pre-reading and/or post-reading position is spaced apart from the protrusion (416). A reader (100) or a test kit according to claim 11, wherein the pre-/post-reading position and the reading position are arranged such that the test stick (700) and the carriage (300), are conveyed in two dimensions between the pre-/post- reading position and the reading position, preferably upon application of a linear force. |
