| Claim | An illuminated sighting system comprising: a light source activated by electricity, a front sight post configured such that a least a portion of the front sight post will be illuminated by the light source when the light source is illuminated, and a rear sight comprising a sighting halo configured such that at least a portion of the sighting halo will be illuminated by the light source when the light source is illuminated, the front sight post being configured to be attached to a front portion of a weapon and the rear sight being configured to be attached to a rear portion of the weapon. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the front sight post is movable between a stowed configuration and an unstowed configuration, wherein, when the front sight post is an unstowed configuration, the front sight post and the rear sight are positioned such that a line connecting the center of the rear sight with the top center of the front sight post is parallel to a barrel of the weapon. The device of claim 2 , wherein the front sight post is rotatable between the stowed and unstowed configurations. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the front sight post is attached to a front base configured to securely and adjustably associate with a mounting rail of the weapon. The illuminated sighting system of claim 4 , wherein the front base contains a battery, a power control switch, and a processor configured to control operation of a front LED. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the rear sight is movable between a stowed configuration and an unstowed configuration, wherein, when both the rear sight and the front sight post are in unstowed configurations, the front sight post and the rear sight are positioned such that a line connecting the center of the rear sight with the top center of the front sight post is parallel to a barrel of the weapon. The illuminated sighting system of claim 6 , wherein the rear sight is rotatable between the stowed and unstowed configurations. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the rear sight is attached to a rear base configured to securely and adjustably associate with a mounting rail of the weapon. The illuminated sighting system of claim 8 , wherein the rear base contains a battery, a power control switch, and a processor configured to control the operation of a rear LED. The illuminated sighting system of claim 9 , wherein the front sight post is attached to a front base configured to securely and adjustably associate with the mounting rail of the weapon, and the front base contains a battery, a power control switch, and a processor configured to control operation of a front LED. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the front sight post is vertically adjustable. The illuminated sighting system in claim 1 , wherein the front sight post is horizontally adjustable. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the rear sight is vertically adjustable. The illuminated sighting system in claim 1 , wherein the rear sight is horizontally adjustable. The illuminated system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the front sight post and the rear sight is removably attachable to the weapon. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the front sight post and the rear sight are mounted configured to be mounted to the same mounting rai The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the LED associated with the rear sight is shaped as a halo. The illuminated sighting system of claim 17 , further comprising a halo insert cover configured to permit the user of the weapon to see the halo and to prevent viewing of the halo from a target side of the front sight post. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , wherein the weapon is at least one of a hunting rifle, a military weapon, and a laser target device. The illuminated sighting system of claim 1 , further including mounting means configured to attach the front sight post and the rear sight to the weapon. |
