Description | The Daily Prospector Bulletin, published in Valdez, Alaska, from approximately 1905 to 1911, provided valuable news to the community during the early 20th century. Initially, it was an edition of the Valdez Daily Prospector, which commenced publication around 1905. Managed by editor H.H. Hildreth, along with businessmen Will H. Craray and Joseph Bourke, it absorbed The Valdez News in June 1907. The paper reported extensively on gold strikes in the Tanana Valley and gained popularity, reaching a circulation of 500 copies. Advertising played a significant role in its success. On August 20, 1908, the publication frequency and name changed to the Valdez Weekly Prospector, continuing until August 1, 1912. The Valdez Daily Prospector ran alongside it until May 18, 1918. Despite some uncertainties regarding its exact start date, the Daily Prospector Bulletin remains a valuable historical source for understanding life in early 20th-century Alaska. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1907 of this newspaper. |
