Description | The Anadarko Daily Democrat, originating in Oklahoma Territory in 1901, served as a pivotal source of news in Anadarko. Initially founded by Preston P. Shaw and Russell Monroe, the newspaper underwent numerous changes in ownership and nomenclature over its 14-year existence. Shaw initially helmed the publication as editor, but subsequent transitions saw J.A. Hill and J.D. Blankenship taking over managerial roles. By 1904, Thomas Kearse and W.K. Thomas were at the helm, followed by the Herndon Bros. Publishers, who shortened the name to the Daily Democrat around 1905-1907. Under various publishers, including A.S. Roberts and W.B. Stephens, the newspaper persisted, experiencing shifts in frequency and title. Ultimately, as the Daily Democrat under the management of T.J. Lewis and the Democrat Publishing Company, the paper met its end in June 1915, concluding its significant role in chronicling Anadarko's history. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1914 of this newspaper. |
