Description | The Tombstone Weekly Epitaph, originating in 1882 under John P. Clum, embodied Republican ideals in its early years. Clum, along with Thomas Sorin and later Charles Reppy, founded the paper to champion the mining industry and combat corruption in Tombstone. Political tensions ran high, leading to the infamous O.K. Corral shootout. The paper underwent numerous changes, including shifts in political alignment and mergers with other publications. By 1887, it reverted to its original title under Charles Reppy and George Peck. Eventually, it evolved into the Sunday edition of the Tombstone Prospector, contributing to the lineage of the oldest continuously printed newspaper in Arizona, still circulating today. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1882 of this newspaper. |
