Description | Established in 1885 under Henry Reed's editorship, the St. Johns Herald initially operated as a weekly Republican newspaper in St. Johns, Arizona. Despite the common challenges faced by territorial newspapers, such as occasional disruptions fueled by whiskey in the print shop, the Herald persevered. Its content primarily revolved around cattle and sheep, reflecting the region's strong influence from the livestock industry. In 1903, the Herald consolidated with another local paper, Snips, forming Snips and the St. Johns Herald, with Eli S. Perkins continuing as editor. This union lasted until 1905 when Snips and the St. Johns Herald amalgamated with the Apache News, evolving into the St. Johns Herald and Apache News. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1902 of this newspaper. |
