Description | The Copper Bee, McCarthy's inaugural newspaper, was launched by Captain J.P. Hubrick in 1916, marking his debut in publishing. Despite lacking experience, Hubrick aimed to cover copper development, Alaska's resources, and war news, advocating for prohibition and expressing Democrat leanings. The paper's price was negotiable, sometimes accepting barter like rabbit or musk rat skins. Hubrick's exaggerated, sarcastic style colored its content. Featuring references to Outdoor Life magazine, Hubrick championed tougher game laws and wildlife preservation. The Bee ceased publication in March 1916 due to Hubrick's focus on wildlife photography and financial constraints. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1916 of this newspaper. |
