Description | Artemis E. Fay initiated the Peach Springs Arizona Champion in 1883, relocating it to Flagstaff in 1884, later becoming the Arizona Daily Sun. Ownership shifted until George H. Tinker acquired it post-fire in 1886. Clarkson M. Funston took over in 1891, renaming it the Coconino Sun. Attorney Jerome Edwin Jones merged it with the Flagstaff Democrat in 1896, forming the Flagstaff Sun-Democrat, briefly known as the Skylight Kicker. Funston repurchased it in 1898 as the Coconino Sun. Jones launched the Flagstaff Gem. The Coconino Sun, pivotal in Flagstaff, covered the town's growth, industries, and regional developments. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1897 of this newspaper. |
