Description | The Connecticut Chronicle, emerging in 1949 under the leadership of Editor Ernie Durham and President George W. Goodman, continued the legacy of its predecessors in championing civil rights causes for the African American community in Connecticut. Building on the foundation laid by the Hartford Chronicle and the Hartford-Springfield Chronicle, the new weekly became a voice for social justice and equality. From advocating for African American representation in the Hartford Fire Department to exposing housing discrimination and endorsing political candidates supportive of civil rights, the Chronicle remained committed to its mission. Despite its relatively short existence, the newspaper played a significant role in advancing the rights and interests of African Americans in the region. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1948 of this newspaper. |
