Description | The New England Bulletin, established in 1949 by Editor Ernie Durham and President George W. Goodman, continued the legacy of its predecessors, the Hartford Chronicle and the Connecticut Chronicle, in advocating for civil rights and equality for the African American community in Connecticut. Building on the foundation laid by the Hartford-Springfield Chronicle, the Bulletin addressed issues of discrimination in housing, insurance, and public accommodations. It also tackled incidents of racial injustice, such as the denial of access to hotels for black students during school trips to Washington, D.C. Through regular surveys and informed editorial opinion, the Bulletin provided a comprehensive analysis of the challenges facing the postwar black community. With correspondents covering social, cultural, and educational achievements across Connecticut, the Bulletin served as a vital voice for African Americans in the region. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1949 of this newspaper. |
