Description | The Lower Sandusky Freeman, established by James Fouke in March 1849 in Lower Sandusky, Ohio, echoed the Whig party's views, akin to its predecessor, the Lower Sandusky Telegraph. Maintaining an inclusive stance, Fouke welcomed diverse political opinions, prioritizing the nation's welfare. When Lower Sandusky changed its name to Fremont in October 1849, the newspaper adapted, becoming The Freeman on October 20, 1849. However, due to a typesetting error, the official title with the new town name appeared on June 8, 1850, as the Fremont Weekly Freeman. Fouke briefly halted publication in November 1852, resuming with J.M. Main as editor before the paper's closure in January 1853. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1849 of this newspaper. |
