Description | The Organ of the Temperance Reform, launched by Caleb Clark in 1852 at Cincinnati, Ohio, under the editorship of Samuel F. Cary, advocated for alcohol prohibition, aligning with the 1851 Maine Law. Filling the void left by the Western Fountain's closure, it aimed to sustain the cause of Temperance and promote Christian values. Initially four pages, it expanded to eight in 1853, becoming the Ohio Organ, of the Temperance Reform. Supporting Free Democratic candidate Samuel Lewis in the 1853 Ohio gubernatorial election, it ceased publication in January 1854, rebranding as the National Organ, aspiring to be a premier temperance journal. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1852 of this newspaper. |
