Description | The Elbert County Tribune has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century when it was founded by J. Ford Crissinger and M. Scott Chenoweth as the Western Recorder. After a successful start, it merged with the Elbert County Tribune in 1898 under J.B. King's ownership. John E. Pope later took over the Tribune and introduced significant improvements, including the introduction of a cylinder press, boosting its circulation and reputation. Ownership changed hands several times, with Albert Neuman taking over in 1909 and relocating the paper to Elizabeth, Colorado, where it merged with the Elbert County Banner. Edward J. Phillips managed and edited the newly formed Elbert County Tribune and Elbert County Banner until 1921 when it reverted to its original name. However, in 1924, L.E. Fry acquired the paper, merging it with the Kiowa County Seat News and renaming it the Elbert County News-Tribune. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1921 of this newspaper. |
