Description | The Hayti Herald, founded in 1909 by William York, advocated Democratic Party politics. It frequently clashed with rival papers, asserting its bold stance: “We will not be cowed or bluffed.” In 1915, York sold the paper to Otis Popham, who maintained its Democratic alignment but aimed for reasoned discourse. However, staunchly defending its Democratic identity, the paper expanded under Popham, offering diverse content including women’s fashion and literature. Renamed the Missouri Herald in 1922, it continued its commitment to Hayti, anticipating increased influence with its expanded reach. Popham's tenure saw the paper through varied community interests until its cessation in 1990. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1922 of this newspaper. |
