Description | The Daily Nashville True Whig, established in 1845 by Benjamin R. McKennie, succeeded the Nashville Whig. Editors Ewing P. McGinty and Alexander M. Rosborough were joined by George B. Brown in 1851. After McGinty's death in 1855, Hiram K. Walker took over before the paper was sold to Smith, Morgan & Co., becoming the Nashville Daily Patriot in 1855. Throughout its existence, it underwent several name changes, maintaining its Whig roots. During the Civil War, it aligned with the Confederacy. Known for its illustrations and unique column "The City Press," it ceased publication in 1862 amidst Union troop arrival and concerns over press restrictions. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1855 of this newspaper. |
