Description | The Kentuckian of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was rooted in the history of the Hopkinsville Conservative, founded in 1866. Over the years, it underwent several transformations, including iterations as the Hopkinsville Democrat and the South Kentuckian. Under the leadership of Charles M. Meacham, the paper evolved to reflect his political influence, with a focus on Democratic Party support and coverage of local and national political affairs. Meacham's tenure saw experiments with daily editions, particularly during the Spanish-American War, but these were short-lived. In 1918, Meacham attempted a final revival of the daily format, which eventually transitioned into a triweekly publication before ceasing operations in 1920, marking the end of one of Hopkinsville's longstanding newspapers. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1919 of this newspaper. |
