Description | The Honesdale Citizen, originating in 1873, had a rich lineage dating back to the Wayne County Free Press and Bethany and Honesdale Advertiser established in 1838. Over the years, it underwent name changes and political affiliations, finally settling as the Honesdale Citizen in 1873 under the leadership of Henry Wilson and E.A. Penniman. In 1908, it transitioned to The Citizen Publishing Company. Walter W. Wood took over as manager, maintaining the paper's tradition of local news alongside major events. Despite being the smallest of Wayne County's newspapers, it continued to serve its community until its merger with the Hawley Times in 1952, ending its publication in 1966. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1908 of this newspaper. |
