Description | The Maysville Weekly Bulletin, founded in 1862 by James J. Ross and George S. Rosser, quickly became a prominent Democratic newspaper in Maysville, Kentucky. Over the years, it underwent several name changes and ownership transitions while maintaining its Democratic stance. In 1869, Ross and Rosser briefly partnered with Welch before returning to sole ownership. The paper evolved into the Daily Evening Bulletin in 1881, experiencing further name changes before settling as the Evening Bulletin in 1887. Throughout its existence, it engaged in spirited rivalry with the Maysville Public Ledger, a Republican paper. However, in 1905, with the passing of Ross and editor Millard F. Marsh, McCarthy partnered with John Aultmeyer to manage the newspaper, renaming it the Daily Bulletin. In 1936, it was sold to the Daily Independent, which eventually merged with the Public Ledger to become the Ledger-Independent, still in publication today. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1864 of this newspaper. |
