Description | The Nicodemus Enterprise, a short-lived but impactful publication, emerged in 1887 in Nicodemus, Kansas, a significant African American community. Founded by H.K. Lightfoot, it represented a period of hope and change for Nicodemus, coinciding with plans for expansion and railroad developments. The paper's advocacy for the town's interests often led to conflicts with neighboring publications. Ultimately, economic setbacks and the loss of the county seat led to the merger of the Nicodemus Enterprise with the Western Cyclone, forming the Nicodemus Cyclone. This new venture continued the legacy of promoting Nicodemus's virtues and encouraging settlement until its closure in 1888, coinciding with the town's decline. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1887 of this newspaper. |
