Description | The Weekly Arizona Citizen, initiated in 1870 by John Wasson, served as a platform to support federal officeholders in the Arizona Territory. After Wasson sold it to John P. Clum in 1877, the paper moved to Florence before returning to Tucson in 1878. Facing financial challenges and competition from the Arizona Star, Clum made Rollin C. Brown a partner in 1880. Brown took full ownership later that year. Renamed the Arizona Weekly Citizen, it endured a fire in 1881 and underwent ownership changes until Herbert Brown managed it in 1885. Despite subsequent struggles, it persisted until 1901, transitioning between Democratic and Republican affiliations before ceasing in 1912. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1880 of this newspaper. |
