Description | "The Tubac Weekly Arizonian began its journey on March 3, 1859, as a Republican newspaper under the ownership of the Santa Rita Silver Mining Company. Initially edited by Edward E. Cross, it later transitioned to a Democratic periodical in Tucson, with J. Howard Wells as editor. After a brief suspension, it resurfaced in 1861 under Thompson M. Turner's editorship but tragically ended with his murder. Revived in 1867 as a Republican paper by Sidney R. DeLong and Governor Richard McCormick, it saw internal strife when Dooner, its subsequent owner, switched allegiance, leading to its eventual closure after McCormick's electoral victory in 1871." NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1859 of this newspaper. |
