Description | The Washington Critic, launched in 1868, initially focused on theater and music critiques. Evolving over its 28-year existence, it expanded its coverage to become a prominent newspaper in Washington, D.C. In 1872, it became the Daily Critic, broadening its content and increasing circulation. Renamed the Evening Critic in 1881, it adjusted to the city's growth, reflecting its local focus. Despite management changes and title shifts, it remained dedicated to Washington affairs. Briefly merging with The Washington Post in 1888, it underwent turbulent periods but maintained its commitment to concise reporting. Its final iteration, the Critic and Record, ceased publication in 1896. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1889 of this newspaper. |
