Description | Launched in 1897 by John D. Daly, the Corvallis Oregon Union championed Republican ideals with a focus on "TARIFF FOR REVENUE, INCIDENTAL PROTECTION AND SOUND MONEY." Published weekly, it covered local, national, and global news, social events, agriculture, and business ads. In 1899, it merged with the long-standing Corvallis Gazette to form The Union Gazette, bolstering Republican representation in Benton County. Daly, a Republican stalwart, juggled his newspaper duties with political roles before passing in 1907. Despite its initial vigor, the Union eventually reverted to the Corvallis Gazette in 1900. Later, it transitioned briefly to the Corvallis Weekly Gazette under Charles L. Springer in 1909. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1909 of this newspaper. |
