Structural Conformations and Newman Projections

Description | Structural conformations are nothing more than the three-dimensional arrangements of atoms in a given molecule. Due to the dynamic nature of the electrons in the atoms, different conformations exist for any given molecule, as is discussed in the lecture. The Newman projection is a method that is used to represent the three-dimensional structural conformation of a molecule on a two-dimensional piece of paper or board. The conventions for this method are arbitrary and simply must be memorized. |
