NDLI: Ray Diagrams

Description	Ray diagrams can be often used to determine the location and position of the image that is formed by convex and concave mirrors. There are generally three rays of light that we need to use to determine the position and location of the image. Actually, only two of these are necessary to locate the image but the third ray serves as a confirmation. The first ray begins on the object and travels to the mirror parallel with respect to the principal axis. This ray of light reflects off of the mirror and travels through the focal point. The second ray of light begins at the same point on the object but travels through the focal point before it reflects. When it reflects, the reflected ray travels parallel with respect to the principal axis. The third ray of light once again begins at the same point on the object and travels along the radius of the spherical mirror and when it reflects, it will travel through the point of the radius of curvature. The location where these three rays of light intersect, known as the imagine point, is where the imagine will be formed. Images appearing in front of the mirror are known as real images and images appearing behind the mirror are known as virtual images.
