Description | This is a handwritten field notes diary ('Kheror Khata') or Shooting Script, which contains several sketches and musical notation of Satyajit Ray's short documentary film 'Sukumar Ray'. This documentary was a tribute to celebrate the birth centenary of Sukumar Ray. The film presents the life and work of the eminent poet, writer and illustrator Sukumar Ray, Satyajit Ray's father. |
Abstract | On his father Sukumar Ray's birth centenary, Satyajit Ray made a short documentary film to honour him. In fact, this is his last documentary before he passed away in 1992. With veteran Soumitra Chatterjee as the narrator and a pool of talented actors such as Utpal Dutt and Tapen Chatterjee, the documentary showed the lineage of Ray family starting from Hari Krishna Roy Chowdhury and Upendrakishore Ray, to the initial days of Sukumar Ray, his formation of the Nonsense Group in the college and publication of handwritten humorous magazine, "Thirty Two and a Half Fries". The film mentions his copious contribution to Bengali literature and ends showing his association with the Brahmo Samaj. Sukumar Ray died on 10th September 1923. From the narration to the music composition, this shooting script has Satyajit Ray's complete research and field notes on the film. |
