Description | Photo shows "the building that housed the first permanent Jewish congregation in the Phoenix area, Congregation Beth Israel." Built in the 1920s, the site was later used as a Baptist Church, including the First Chinese Baptist Church (1957-1981) and then the Iglesia Bautistia Central. The Arizona Jewish Historical Society bought the buildings in 2001-02 and established the Cutler Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center. (Source: AZJHS, 2020) |
