NDLI: View of New York City's Brooklyn borough, or county-like administrative jurisdiction, from the Brooklyn Bridge, which crosses the East River between the borough of Manhattan and Brooklyn. One of the oldest roadway bridges in the United States, the span was started in 1869 and completed fourteen years later in 1883
