Purple lupine -- a sure sign of Spring in Colorado -- pop up alongside smaller wildflowers along the road between Ridgway and Placerville in Ouray County. Lupine plants are legumes, with small, edible, pea-type seed pods. Lupine, sometime spelled "lupin," is pronounced "LOOP-in"
