NDLI: Aircraft. Army. A Flying Fortress (B-17) bomber discharging a bomb on an enemy target. The Flying Fortress, recognized as one of the outstanding planes of the war, has performed with great credit in the South Pacific, over Germany and elsewhere. It has proved its ability to fight off enemy aircraft as well as to inflict and absorb punishment on long-range, high-altitude bombing missions
