NDLI: Jalopies for defense. It doesn't look like much, but actually it's 300 pounds of scrap metal. Only a few minutes before it was thrown into the powerful hydraulic baling press it was the body of a discarded automobile. It is now ready for shipment to a steel mill. More than 28,000,000 tons of scrap metal is needed this year for defense production
