Description | Birds-eye view print shows view of the city and fortress of Sigeth (Szigetvár) in Hungary held by Turkish forces in 1664. Miklós Zrínyi (Nikola Zrinski) commanded forces to siege this fortress from the Turks on his way to destroy the bridge at Osijek (Esseck). The site was also the location of a battle made famous by Zrinsyi's grandfather who defended the fortress against the Turks during the Siege of Szigetvár in 1566. Includes views of fortifications, the swampy area around the town, soldiers, encampments and the Trab river. Elements in print are labeled A-F and are identified in descriptive key below the image in the middle of the print. |
