Spatial Coverage | Czechoslovakia Germany |
Description | Cartoon shows Hitler seated behind a desk lecturing an apprehensive young Czech woman dressed in peasant costume. In his left hand, under the desk, Hitler holds a pistol. In May 1938, Czechoslovakia bowed to German demands and agreed to give more autonomy to the Germans living in the Sudentenland. These concessions did not satisfy Hitler for long, and Germany eventually took control of all of Czechoslovakia. Kirby accurately assesses the severity of the German threat. |
