Description | Cartoon shows a winged woman in white clothing (Kirby's symbol for Peace) fleeing massed black clouds labeled "Mobilization." In September 1938, as Hitler made new demands on Czechoslovakia, the Czech army mobilized and France and Britain threatened to honor their commitments to defend the little country. By the end of the month, however, Hitler had won his bluff, the British and the French had capitulated to German demands at Munich, and the independence of Czechoslovakia was at end. The caissons mentioned in the caption were two-wheeled vehichles designed to carry ammunition. |
