Description | Editorial cartoon shows the cartoonist's attempt to draw an ideal presidential nominee by combining the most obvious features of the numerous politicians competing in the 1976 campaign. He picks "Reagan Hair, Ford Brow, Jackson Ears, Humphrey Eyes, Udall Nose, Carter Teeth, and Wallace Chin." The resulting composite candidate is so unattractive that he covers his head with a paper bag. Marlette drew cartoons for the Charlotte Observer and other southern newspapers from 1972 until his death in 2007 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. He also drew the popular comic strip Kudzu. |
