Description | Cartoon shows the dark entrance to a cave labeled "Gloom." Trash, bones, and other debris are labeled "Shortages," "Strikes," "Russian Worry," and "Inflation." A spritely nymph labeled "Spring" dances in front of it, calling out "Oo-Hoo!" A lamb dances behind her. This cartoon was probably drawn in the first year after the end of World War II. Strikes, shortages, and difficulties with its erstwhile ally, the Soviet Union, plagued the United States, but the cartoonist suggests that the larger problem is psychological. |
