Description | World War II cartoon shows a huge mountain labeled "Everest War Production." Uncle Sam, using a surveying tool, measures the mountain and the sea beyond. A blueprint labeled "How to Get That Mountain over the Oceans" lies on the ground behind him. Even before it formally entered the war in December 1941, the United States, through the Lend-Lease program, supplied an enormous amount of war materiel and other supplies to Great Britain and the Soviet Union. The problem of transporting supplies across the submarine-infested Atlantic required the use of large numbers of ships and eventually American convoys. Pease expresses confidence that the US government will find a way to transport the material successfully. |
