Description | Cartoon shows a grinning Henry Agard Wallace holding up paper dolls labeled "Demagogic Logic," "3rd Party Threat," "Charges about World War III," and "Don't Get Tough with Communism." Wallace, a former Vice President and Secretary of Commerce, broke with the Truman administration over the development of foreign policy designed to contain the spread of Communism. Wallace charged that harsh policies towards the Soviet Union after World War II ended had led to the rise of the Cold War. Late in 1947, Wallace announced that he would oppose President Truman and run for president on a third party ticket. Pease suggests that Wallace has lost touch with reality. |
