Description | Four-panel comic strip shows Opus the penguin parading past Milo Bloom who is reading a book. Milo finally notices that Opus is wearing a long curling wig and asks, "Donna Reed?" Opus responds, "Marilyn Quayle." Donna Reed was a long-time star of movies and television. Marilyn Quayle, the wife of the newly-elected Vice President, wore her hair in a long flip. Bloom County, a popular and frequently outrageous strip, satirizing American society and political life, began publication in 1980. Breathed retired the strip toward the end of 1989, then revived it briefly under the title Outland a few years later. In 2003, he began a new strip under the title Opus, again featuring the beloved penguin. |
