[Krazy Kat]. "Well--" "Yes--"

Description | Eight-panel cartoon shows Offissa Pup and Krazy Kat looking in surprise at Ignatz Mouse carrying a sign reading: "Fair Kop." They conclude he is "not such a bad little mug at times," until Kwakk Wakk, the duck, comes along and reveals that the back of the sign reads "Unfair Kop." The remainder of the cartoon is incomplete. Krazy Kat featured a classic triangle: Krazy Kat in love with Ignatz Mouse who not only rejected his affection, but threw a brick at Krazy whenever he got the chance, and a dog, Offissa Pup, who made it his mission to throw Ignatz in jail whenever he hurled a brick. Drawn from 1910 to 1944 by George Herriman, it was cherished by a distinguished group of people including E.E. Cummings, H.L. Mencken, Jack Kerouac, and William Randolph Hearst (who insisted that his syndicate continue to publish it even though it had little wide-spread appeal). |
