Description | Five-panel comic strip shows Judge Rummy (drawn as a dog) complaining to a friend about his clerk who is always late. When the clerk finally shows up at 11:00, he gives him a lengthy tongue-lashing, assuming dramatic poses such as those used by tragedians, politicians, and tigers poised to spring, to emphasize his displeasure. The cartoonist, Thomas Aloysius Dorgan, who drew under the name Tad, was a sports writer and cartoonist for The New York Journal. Judge Rummy was one of his more popular cartoons. Dorgan was also noted for his contributions to slang, contributing such expressions as "twenty-three skidoo," "drug-store cowboy," "Dumb Dora," "for crying out loud," and "cat's pajamas" to the American vernacular. |
