Description | Editorial cartoon shows a congressman reclining in his chair with his feet on the table. Above him, the Defense Housing Bill sits in a cubbyhole, surrounded by spider webs. Outside his window can be see people living in garbage cans, packing boxes and barrels. Despite a clear need for adequate housing for members of the military during the Korean War, the House of Representatives tried to block the passage of a bill authorizing 50,000 new low-priced units. The bill was eventually passed at the end of August 1951. |
